Meet Jesus
WHY SHOULD I BECOME A CHRISTIAN? Some people have never invited Christ to come into their life because they just don’t think it’s important. It’s not that they are “anti-Christ”…the fact is they don’t really have any feelings about Christ one way or another.Maybe you’re one of these people. If so, there’s something you should know, Jesus Christ is not someone you can afford to ignore…He’s important. There are three reasons why you should believe in Christ…reach out to Christ …invite Christ to come into your life …and become a Christian.
REASON #1: YOU’VE GOT A PROBLEM!
The Bible makes it very clear that all of us are born with a problem…
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
Because of Adam ( a guy we never knew but are related to nonetheless) we are all born sinners. That means we are separated from God…living without the relationship with God that we were created to have. Like a puzzle with a missing piece, there is something preventing our lives from being complete. Without God in our lives we are frustrated, unfulfilled, unable to be truly content.
REASON #2: YOUR PROBLEM IS ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE!
Sin is a degenerative disease. Like a deadly cancer, it continues to grow in our lives, spreading from one area of our lives to another. Before you know it, it’s claimed all of who we are …all of who we ever hoped to be. Sin will ruin your relationships, your attitude, and even your health if you don’t get a handle on it. The fact of the matter is , sin makes us miserable. The Apostle Paul, when talking about sin’s effect in his own life said it best when he said…
“What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?” Romans 7:24
REASON #3: IF YOU DON’T DEAL WITH YOUR PROBLEM IT COULD END UP COSTING YOU YOUR SOUL!
The Bible makes it very clear that “Hell” is a real place, and that those who don’t deal with the sin in their lives are destined to go there…
“If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:15
Let’s be honest…nobody likes to talk about “Hell”. It’s negative, a downer, the kind of thing that really turns people off! But not talking about it doesn’t make it go away. “Hell” is a reality that those who haven’t dealt with the sin problem in their lives are going to have to face. And from what the Bible says …it doesn’t sound like a very nice place.
SO…MAYBE THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION IS NOT “WHY SHOULD I BECOME A
CHRISTIAN?” BUT INSTEAD, “HOW DO I BECOME A CHRISTIAN?”
3 SIMPLE STEPS TO BECOMING A NEW BELIEVER
STEP #1: ADMIT that you need Christ in your life
The Bible says we were all born sinners…separated from God because of our sin. That doesn’t mean you’re a bad person or you’ve done horrible things…it simply means you’re a descendant of Adam, the first man who committed the first sin. All of us have inherited his sin and need God to help us fix the mess he made.
“…everyone has sinned and is far away from God’s saving presence.” Romans 3:3 (Good News Translation)
STEP #2: INVITE Christ to come into your life.
Jesus Christ wants to be a part of all of our lives. Doesn’t matter who you are…or who you aren’t … what you’ve done … what you’re guilty of … or anything else for that matter! God loves you; is anxious to forgive you; wants to have a relationship with you! He’s waiting for you to ask and invite Him to come into your life.
“Look at me. I stand at the door. I knock. If you hear me call and open the door, I’ll come right in and sit down to supper with you.” Revelation 3:20 (The Message)
STEP #3: CONTINUE to grow in your faith by following Christ.
Becoming a Christian is the beginning of something…not the end. It’s the beginning of a relationship which God wants to grow, and grow, and grow. Stick with Christ and He will stick with you. Read your bible, talk to Him through prayer, go to church, hang out with Christian friends … do things that will help you grow and become bigger and stronger in your faith every day!
“And now, children, stay with Christ. Live deeply in Christ. Then we’ll be ready for him when he appears, ready to receive him with open arms, with no cause for red-faced guilt or lame excuses when he arrives.” 1 John 2:28 (The Message)
